SHC issues notices on petition against raids

Seeks reply from Sindh chief secretary, home secretary by June 2

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Home Secretary and Sindh Chief Secretary on petitions related to PTI's Azadi March and raids on the houses of party leaders.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro and comprising Justice Agha Faisal heard the petition. The counsel for the petitioner contended that the Islamabad High Court has fixed a separate procedure for hearing such cases.

Justice Agha Faisal remarked: "This is Sindh High Court, Do not tell us about the Islamabad High Court." Lawyers told the court that PTI MNAs, MPAs and workers were being arrested while two members were missing. "Our leaders are being arrested. The houses of PTI leaders were raided overnight. The purpose of the raids is to prevent them from participating in Azadi March," they said.

The court issued notices to the Federal Home Secretary and Sindh Chief Secretary seeking reply by June 2. The lawyers argued that arrests and raids should be stopped. Justice Kalhoro remarked that notices have been issued.

Another 172 PTI activists held Police continued to raid the homes of PTI lawmakers, leaders and workers in different parts of the city and arrested more than 170 party members.

Police sources said that the highest number of arrests of PTI workers has been made in South District with over 55 arrested workers while 32 officials and workers have also been arrested from Central District. According to police sources, the process of registration of cases against the arrested persons has also been initiated.
