'Rajneeti 2' script ready, director 'not too sure' about release
While there have been rumours floating around of a sequel to Prakash Jha's hit political drama Raajneeti for quite some time now, it appears that while the script is ready to go, the filmmaker is on the fence about a possible release. The director shared in an interview with BollywoodLife that the second part of the Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer is definitely in the works, with the script of the sequel ready. However, he explained that he is unsure about going ahead with the film given India's current political climate.
Speaking about the second part of the 2010 film, the director, who is currently enjoying the success of his webseries Aashram, shared, "I like to explore new subjects. Raajneeti is one subject where there is another part, which has been written. But, you know, in the field of politics, so much changes (compared to when the script was written), so maybe, but I'm not too sure. There are new subjects on which I've been working on.”
In 2015, Prakash confirmed Katrina’s presence in the sequel of the film, but he was unsure of Ranbir’s role.
According to previous reports, while Raajneeti borrowed its plot from Sonia Gandhi’s entry to politics, the sequel will look at the recent power shift in India, beginning with Indu, played by Katrina, embracing the position of Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
Apart from Katrina and Ranbir, the film also starred Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee and Nana Patekar. It is unclear which characters will be returning for the sequel.
