Sharjeel orders 'Peoples Bus Service' on road by June 1

Mass transit minister says Sindh govt will bear all expenses including fuel for 15 days

KARACHI:

The provincial minister for mass transit has set June 1 as the deadlie to start Peoples Bus Service on Route-1 which extends from Malir to the Merewether Tower, one of the most-busiest bus routes of the port city.

Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Authority, Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday chaired important meetings with National Radio Transmission Company (NRTC) and Sindh Infrastructure Development Company limited ( SIDCL) regarding launch of Sindh Peoples Intra District Bus Service and Abdul Sattar Edhi BRT Orange Line.

Secretary Transport Abdul Haleem Sheikh, Managing Director Sindh Mass Transit Authority Capt (R) Altaf Hussain Sario, Director Yousuf Munir and others attended the meetings.

Project Manager NRTC Sohaib Shafiq, GM (Engineering) SIDCL Shafiq Mohammad, Senior Manager SIDCL Abdul Aziz, Nespak GM Mohammad Farooq and Nespak Project Manager Rehan Zamin were also present.

The minister said that these are the projects of public interest and Sindh government wants to launch both the projects as soon as possible so as to move ahead to resolve the longstanding issue of public transport of the city. "I have given June 1 as the cut off date for operation of People's Bus Service and for Orange Line May, 30." The minister added that If any contractor or public officials violates the commitment, action will be taken against them in accordance with the law.
