Anti-polio drive kicks off in Sindh

This is the third polio campaign of the year being run across Pakistan

KARACHI:

Like the rest of the country, a seven-day anti-polio drive kicked off in Sindh on Monday.

The campaign was inaugurated by the Provincial Minister for Health Dr Azra Fazal Pechoho who administered polio drops to the children of Janat Gul Dispensary.

Sindh Chief Secretary Sohail Rajput, Health Secretary Zulfiqar Ali Shah and others were also present on the occasion. D. Azra Pechoho said that the campaign would be run by Emergency Operations Center for Polio Sindh from May 23 to May 28 across Sindh. This is the third polio campaign of the year being run across Pakistan. During this campaign, millions of children in 30 districts of Sindh will be given Vitamin A drops along with polio vaccines.

He said that testing of sewage water has also been intensified. Individuals will be taken into confidence through regional language. Meetings have also been held with police and Rangers for further security measures. Follow-up will also be taken after the campaign. Efforts are being made to keep an eye on diarrhea cases. Chief Secretary Sindh said that more than 5,000 security personnel are part of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Dr Pechoho said the Sindh government will establish two medical collages for boys in Landhi and the Kohsar area of Hyderabad.
