KARACHI:

The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief, Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the JI had transformed Karachi into a city of lights during the tenure of Nematullah Khan and will do so again if elected. The JI leader expressed these views while addressing a corner meeting during his visit to district Keamari.

JI leader Fazal Ahad Haneef and others also accompanied him during the visit. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the JI has decided to take out the Karachi Rights Caravan on May 29 to highlight the issues of the city. The caravan will be taken out in the evening from the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

He said that the JI is the only force in the political arena that is capable of lifting up the city. He said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid a visit to Karachi but offered only lip service instead of announcing any drastic decision. Recalling the tenure of late Nematullah Khan, he said that he used to work for 18 hours a day in order to deliver for the city. He transformed Karachi into a city of lights in letter and spirit.

Later the then dictator Pervez Musharraf had created the idea of notorious NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance) - as a result of which the city was once again handed over to the goons - belonging to the PPP and the MQM. Since then, over the span of 17 years, not even a single drop of water was increased in the quota of water supply to Karachi, he said.

Once again, Karachi needs the honest leadership of the JI for progress and development of the city, he added. The JI leader said that acute shortage of electricity and water has become a burning issue in most parts of the city. He added that it was only the JI that was raising voice in accordance with the aspirations of the masses.
