Express August 20, 2011

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), with the help of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), will begin a nationwide campaign for the verification of voters’ information from Monday.

During the campain, ECP officials will travel door-to-door and verify information of existing voters. Previously unregistered voters will also be added to the computerised voters list.

Secretary Election Commission, Ishtiak Ahmed Khan said the campaign will eliminate bogus voters and vote duplication for a more transparent electoral system.

He said the campaign will continue till September 30 and provide all adults with an opportunity to get themselves registered before the elections.

The commission will use bio-metric cards and picture ID to avoid duplication of voter records.

Earlier, NADRA under supervision of the election commission had completed the registration of printed draft electoral rolls of around 81 million eligible voters as part of its efforts to make the electoral process transparent and credible.
