SARGODHA:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Vice President Maryam Nawaz unleashed a trenchant criticism of former prime minister Imran Khan and said it would be better to quit the government than to burden the people of Pakistan with price hike.

Maryam Nawaz, and her cousin Hamza Shahbaz – the Chief Minister of Punjab – addressed a large public gathering in Company Bagh, Sargodha. In their speeches they targeted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, calling him a ‘fitna’ that must be stopped.

“Imran is a snake in bosom and bit all those who had nourished him,” said Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif. “If the institutions decided in his favour, it is okay, but when the decision comes against him, he abuses the institutions,” she added.

“Imran is a liar. First it was letter drama, but no proof; then there is the foreign conspiracy drama, no proof; then the drama of conspiracy of his assassination and again no proof. This ‘liar Khan’ has no proof of any of his dramas,” she said, firing a broadside against the PTI chairman.

Maryam Nawaz blamed Imran for all the problems facing the people of the country today. During his four year rule, she added, the former prime minister wiped out all the good things the Nawaz Sharif government had done for the people.

“If the dollar has skyrocketed today, then Imran Khan is the proof; if the country is stuck in debt today, the proof is Imran Khan; if oil prices had to be increased today, Imran Khan is the proof; If people are struggling to eke out daily meal, Imran is the proof,” she added.

“During Imran’s tenure, load-shedding returned, terrorism resurfaced, debt increased. Still he [Imran] says that Shahbaz Sharif had destroyed the economy. What has been destroyed in four years cannot be cured in four days,” she continued.

Rubbishing Imran’s charge that the PML-N government was unable to take any decision, Maryam Nawaz asked the gathering: “Do you know how difficult it is for a government to take difficult decisions,” adding: “It is better to leave the government instead of unleashing a storm of inflation on the people.”

She said that the PML-N and its allies removed the PTI government to thwart Imran’s plans for stay in the government for 12 years. “Imran used to say that he did not come to power to control prices of tomato or potato, but Shehbaz Sharif has come to control the price hike,” she added.

In her speech, Maryam praised the policies of Nawaz Sharif. “For 40 years, people’s love for Nawaz Sharif has not diminished. She urged the masses to give the PML-N two-thirds majority in the next elections.

Addressing the gathering, Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz said that in the last four years, the former prime minister lied to the youth of the country by making false promises of 10 million jobs but added that now the people knew he only wanted to create chaos in the guise of politics.

“Sometimes he challenges institutions, sometimes he challenges friendly countries,” the chief minister said. “If you want the politics of anarchy, the people will eliminate you from the country’s politics.” He assured the people that he would mitigate the sufferings of the masses.

“The price of a flour bag has been reduced from Rs650 to Rs490, while the prices of edible oil and sugar will also come down in the next few days,” Hamza said. He then asked the crowd, how could Imran compete with Shehbaz and Nawaz.

Hamza, also a PM-N vice president, said that Imran Niazi will be put in the dock in people’s court and they would punish him for his crimes. “Elections are coming and if the young people ask you for an answer [to the false promises] you will be forced to commit political suicide.”

Criticising the PTI government, Hamza warned that Imran did not accept the Constitution. “He [Imran] is conspiring against the country, he must be stopped.”
