Amir Khan retires from professional boxing

Pakistani-British boxer thanks friends and family for their support in 27-year career

Pakistani-British boxer Amir Khan, now 35 years old, took to Twitter on Friday to announce his retirement from professional boxing.

In his tweet, he said that it was time to leave the sport. “It’s time to hang up my gloves,” wrote Amir Khan in his tweet.

He continued by thanking all the people who were involved in his boxing journey throughout the years. “I feel blessed to have had such an amazing career that has spanned over 27 years. I want to say a heartfelt thanks and to the incredible teams I have worked with and to my family, friends and fans for the love and support they have shown me.”

Amir Khan, currently hold a record of 34 wins and six losses. Meanwhile, he won 21 out of the 34 fights through knock-outs.

Amir Khan’s claim to fame was his silver medal at the age of 17 in the 2004 Olympics. This feat made him the youngest boxing Olympic medallist for Britain.

Amir Khan is a former unified light-welterweight world champion, having held the WBA (later Super) title from 2009 to 2012. He also held the IBF title in 2011.

At the regional level, he won the Commonwealth lightweight title both in 2007 and 2008.

He also held the WBC Silver welterweight title between 2014 and 2016.

Apart from boxing Amir Khan also runs Amir Khan Foundation to help the needy. He also is a promoter and sponsor of boxing talent through Khan Promotions. Amir Khan also runs a boxing academy in Pakistan, the Amir Khan Academy.
