GUJRAT:

A couple, who had been married just a fortnight ago, were shot dead in their bedroom while they were asleep, police said.

The deceased were identified as Altaf and his wife Asiya.

Two men entered the couple’s house in Chah Budhewala neighborhood at dawn, shot the couple dead and fled.

Personnel of the Civil Lines Police Station shifted the bodies to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital and registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Asiya’s ex-husband, Mansab Ali, and an unidentified suspect on the complaint of Altaf’s brother Muhammad Abbas.

According to Acting DPO Imran Razzaq, the preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, Asiya, had divorced accused Mansab Ali and got married to Altaf, an act which the accused allegedly resented.

It was also Altaf’s second marriage.

Suleiman Akbar, 16, son of Asiya's from her first husband, was also present in the house at the time of the incident.

The IG of Punjab, Rao Sardar, while taking notice of the murder of the couple, demanded a report from the RPO and ordered arrest of the suspects.

Five people have been killed and two injured in the last seven days in Gujrat.

On May 5, suspects in Kathana village in the jurisdiction of the Karianwala Police Station killed a young man Amir and injured Zain and Saqlain allegedly over some previous litigation.
