WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani hosted an inter-faith Iftar dinner on Thursday. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to restoring the spirit of inclusiveness and tolerance to the Pakistani society through a host of democratic initiatives. Haqqani said the gathering of people from different faiths – symbolising a tradition practiced in Islamic societies in the past – will help foster a feeling of being connected. “Everybody who is here from different faiths will not lose their faith by sitting together and joining their Muslim brethren in the observance of the holy month of Ramazan. If anything, everybody will go back feeling more human, feeling more connected because after all what is the purpose of faith if it is not to bring human beings to a higher level of humanity.”
