Following an increase in wheat price, flour millers have announced a hike in the prices of wheat flour from Rs55 to Rs66 per kilogramme.
The increase pushed the price of a 10kg flour sack to Rs660 and 20kg to Rs1,310 in the retail markets across Punjab. Millers said increase in the wheat support price from Rs1,800 per maund of the previous year to Rs2,200 during the current procurement season and end to issuance of subsidised wheat from government godowns to mills are the reasons behind this sudden jump in the prices.
As per new tariff, ex-mill rate of a 10kg flour bag will be Rs645, while with delivery charges it will cost the retailer Rs650 per bag and be sold to the consumer at Rs 660. Likewise, 20kg sack’s new ex-mill price will be Rs1,280 per bag, costing the retailer Rs1,290 and consumer Rs1,310.
At the start of Ramazan, the previous provincial government had dropped the 10kg bag price to Rs450, which was further slashed by the incumbent government to Rs400.
