Three including local JI leader die in AJK road accident

Raja Sarshar lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve and fell into a deep gorge, say police

MUZAFFARABAD:

Three people including a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) chapter died on Wednesday after their vehicle fell down a deep ravine some 30 kilometres away from the capital city of the region.

According to the police, Raja Sarshar was on the way to Muzaffarabad while returning from his village Komikot after Eid celebrations. He lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve and fell into a deep gorge, they added.

The vehicle was reduced to a crumpled heap of metal, killing Sarshar, his wife and the driver on the spot. The deceased's two daughters and grandson sustained injuries. The condition of one of the daughters is said to be critical.

Local people rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies out from the wreckage and shifted them to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan hospital for the treatment.

Following funeral prayers on Thursday, the bodies were laid to rest in their ancestral graveyard amid sobs and tears.

Prime Minister of AJK Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan expressed his grief on the tragic accident and condoled with the bereaved family members. He directed the district administration to hand out compensation to the heirs of those who had lost their lives in the accident.
