ISLAMABAD:

Rich tributes were paid to Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir and All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sehrai on his first anniversary on Thursday.

Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) Chairman Altaf Ahmad Bhat said that Sehrai was the founder of ongoing liberation movement of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

His killing by the Indian government in custody once again exposed New Delhi's approach and policy towards the political leadership of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Sehrai had provided intellectual base to the Kashmiris’ rights struggle under United Nations resolutions and continued his peaceful, nonviolent and political struggle for the right of self-determination of the people of IIOJK for more than half a century.

Bhat elaborated that Sehari's custodial killing is a slap on the face of international community that failed to raise this issue with India that how an elderly and ailing towering political figure of IIOJK was silenced in detention.

"The custodial killing of Sehari was an ample proof of the Indian government’s policy to silence all political leaders and workers who have been demanding and fighting for the implementation of United Nations resolution on IIOJK since long to bring peace in South Asia where Kashmir dispute can be a main reason of a war between the two nuclear arch rivals – Pakistan and India," Bhat added.

The president JKSM also appealed the global human rights organisations, European Union (EU), United States of America and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to use their offices to put pressure on the government of India to investigate the custodial killing of towering IIOJK leader and bring the culprits who were behind the coldblooded murder to justice so in future any other political leader and activist would not be killed in detention like Sehrai.

Bhat further said that the people of IIOJK will continue their political and freedom struggle while keeping the undaunted commitment and sacrifices of Sahrai with Kashmir cause in view which would be the source of inspiration for the coming generations of IIOJK.
