KARACHI:

From announcements from the loudspeakers of the mosques to messages on the social media and banners and posters in the neighbourhoods, police have started taking steps to prevent aerial firing on the eve of Eidul Fitr.

The only measure they fail to take is to arrest the men discharging automatic firearms in the air.

West district SSP West Farrukh Raza said that announcements were made from various mosques of Orangi Town urging people to refrain from aerial firing on the occasion of the eve of Eidul Fitr.

Aerial firing is a crime and anyone found violating the law will be severely punished. He said that the happiness of the shooter could turn someone's life into a tragedy. Therefore, aerial firing should not be done while proving to be a responsible citizen.

Police officials also launched a campaign against aerial firing on social media and various posters were made to create awareness among the citizens. The SSP also directed to set up an anti-aerial firing squad at the police station level. Police personnel were strictly ordered to keep a close eye on such elements and wherever such complaints are received, immediate action should be taken in accordance with the law.

He directed all the DSPs and SHOs to ensure patrolling in the area. In addition, all possible measures should be taken to protect the lives and property of the citizens. All SHOs will be bound to stop aerial firing and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
