It’s been a while since we’ve seen a good passionate Shakespearean-with-a-desi-twist love story in cinemas. Thanks to the Covid pandemic, a bevy of films were waiting to be released, and now that cinemas have opened, a long vibrant landscape of releases are being churned out one after another.
As we sit with bated breaths, and perhaps an indecisive mind to watch not one, but four Eid releases in a few days, director Amin Iqbal has the month of May sorted too with his long-delayed musical romance, Rehbra. The Ayesha Omar and Ahsan Khan-starrer just unveiled its trailer and with its dreamy romantic numbers and a Jab We Met-ish storyline, although predictable, it looks like a pensive love affair worth watching.
Produced by Saira Afzal, the two-minute-long trailer explores the many hurdles including a fiancé, girlfriend and parents, amongst other things, in between the fateful love affair of Danish (Ahsan) and Bubbly (Ayesha) as they first meet on a train ride.
The clip opens with a suave Danish who’s seen riding the waves with his aggression and beating someone up. From the beginning, Danish, with his macho attitude, is shown as the adventurous, carefree and flirtatious hero. From the romantic dance numbers to action scenes to a soft vulnerable confession scene, Danish vows everyone with his journey to find his Rehbra (soulmate) Bubbly.
As the name suggests, Ayesha’s character Bubbly is a feisty Punjabi girl with a no-nonsense attitude. Her personality is as colorful, if not more, as her wardrobe in the film and her accent renounces the Geet effect even more. She sets her foot out for a solo trip only to have her life literally take a 360 turn on the train ride.
Despite their romantic partners, the duo’s crackling chemistry tells them there is more than what they have settled for. The drama unfolds with them convincing themselves and others of their fateful destiny. If not for the feels, their pairing will be a major reason to watch the musical romance movie alone.
Rehbra also stars Sohail Sameer, Sarish Khan, Saba Faisal, Adnan Haider, Mohammad Ali, and Ghulam Mohiuddin in pivotal roles. On the musical front, the film features songs in the melodic voices of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Asim Azhar, Suvarna Tiwari, and Aishwarya Majmundar.
Co-penned by Shakeel Ahmed Chohan and Asad Ali Shah, Rehbra is set to hit theatres on June 24 this year.
