Robert Pattinson is all set to don the cowl and cape once again for the sequel to his hit outing as Batman. Warner Bros revealed that another Caped Crusader film is in the works, set to be directed by The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves. The director was present to announce the news himself, sharing that he will be writing and directing the follow-up. However, details of the plot and possible new characters are still under wraps.
The film has gathered more than $760M, with The Batman being streamed by 4.1M households within the first week of its release on HBO Max, according to Deadline. Reeves took to stage at CinemaCon to share, “Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman. We couldn’t have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I’m excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter.”
It seems like Pattinson wasn’t the only one that won hearts with his outing as the Dark Knight of Gotham. The Penguin, a standout villain from Matt Reeves's superhero flick, is all set for more screen time as well. After months of speculation, HBO Max officially ordered a spin-off series focused on the Penguin on March 9, as reported by Deadline.
Collin Farrel, who essays the Penguin in the latest adaptation of Batman, will reprise his role for the spinoff series. A fan favourite for its car chase sequences and comedic relief, The Penguin — real name Oswald Cobblepot — is an associate of Carmine Falcone who runs the Iceberg Lounge. Farrell faded into the role with intricate prosthetics and nailed the villain narrative for the audience despite The Riddler being the central villain.
Farrel shared that he “couldn’t be more excited” about a series that is primarily focused on a character he essayed and its developments. "I couldn't be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin," he said in a statement. "[It] will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem,” he further added.
