Truth Social has suddenly shot to the top ranking in the App Store, as it witnessed increased downloads in the US after Elon Musk took over Twitter.

Launched by former US President Donald Trump after being permanently banned from Twitter for his incitement of the January 6, 2021, insurrection, the app was ranked number 52 on Sunday while Twitter was at number 39, according to Mobile Insights Strategist Stephanie Chan of SensorTower.

When the app launched in February of this year, users complained of being on long waitlists, which on Friday, was cleared as the site transferred to a new cloud provider, Rumble.

According to Fast Company, the increase in downloads could be attributed to former President's statements amidst Musk showing keen interest in buying Twitter. Trump told Americano Media, “Twitter’s become very boring. They’ve gotten rid of many good voices on Twitter, a lot of their conservative voices.”

After news broke out of the Twitter takeover, Trump told Fox News that he would not return to Twitter even if Musk lifted the ban and invited him back.

Stephenie Chan estimated that the app has been downloaded 1.4 million times since its launch.
