LAHORE:

Nimra Kazmi, a grade 10 student who went "missing" from Karachi earlier this month has been found in Punjab’s DG Khan district, a senior police official said on Monday.

DPO DG Khan Ali Waseem said that they have informed Karachi police about the girl.

She has contracted free-will marriage with a person identified as Najeeb Shahrukh. Her nikahnama (marriage certificate), written statement submitted to the court and a video statement are available with The Express Tribune.

In the short video statement, Nimra can be heard saying that she was not abducted and left her parents' home with her free-will.

“My name is Nimar Kazmi... I came here on [April] 17 and entered into marriage on [April] 18... I was not kidnapped and came here out of my free-will and I am very happy,” the teenage girl said in the video.

On April 20, Nimra Kazmi, daughter of Nargis and Muhammad Nadeem, who live near RCD Ground in Karachi’s Malir Saudabad area, mysteriously disappeared from her house. Nargis, the mother of the missing teenager, told The Express Tribune that she was a health worker.

"I went to work at 8:30 in the morning on the day of the incident. Two hours later I called my daughter, but she did not answer the phone, and after a while, when I called again, her mobile was switched off. When I came home, my daughter was not there. I called all of Nimra's friends and her cousins and asked them about her, but none of them had any information about her whereabouts. After that, I went to the police station and registered a case of my daughter's abduction."

Nargis further said that Nimra had mentioned a young man named Shahrukh and said he sent a marriage proposal two months ago. "I opposed giving her hand in marriage to Shahrukh because her education was incomplete. I told Nimra, complete your education first, then we will get you married," she said. "I suspect that Shahrukh might have abducted my daughter," Nargis told the police.

The mother added that she contacted Shahrukh and his mother to inquire if Nimra was at their house, but they replied in negative.
