RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi district administration, in collaboration with the Motorway Police and the Food Department, seized 32 trucks containing 831 metric tonnes of wheat in an effort to combat smuggling. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Noorul Amin Mengal issued instructions during a price control meeting that a 10kg flour bag would be priced at Rs480 during the month of Ramadan.

He said that the possibility of smuggling has increased due to this decrease in the price and therefore more strict monitoring is required. “Procurement and release of wheat will be going on side by side so we need to remain more vigilant,” he said.

Mengal said that the purpose of the government subsidy is to provide relief to the people. “Therefore, all officers concerned should ensure that the wheat and flour given on subsidy is within the reach of common man,” he said.

He said that a total of 14 check posts have been set up in Rawalpindi division including Sang Jani Toll Plaza, Brahma Bahtar Interchange and M1 Interchange in Rawalpindi district.

In District Attock, they were established at Attock Khurd (Malan Mansoor), Jhari Kas, Khushal Garh and Jamshed Ghazi Road. In Jhelum District, Mangla Dina and In Chakwal, Balkzsar Interchange, Neela Dehla and Kallar Kahar.

Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Tahir Farooq, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Qasim Ijaz, Deputy Director Food Zaman Khan and other officers concerned attended the meeting. Deputy Commissioners of Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal District attended via video link.
