The building of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the third largest public healthcare facility in the city, was in dilapidated condition for want of repairs and maintenance.
During a survey by The Express Tribune, it was observed that sewage was dripping from plumbing of bathrooms on the upper floor.
Puddle of sewage was causing a foul smell besides being a health hazard for the patients and their attendants in the hospital. Medical Superintendent (MS) of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Nadeem Asif said that the government was not cooperating with the hospital in terms of budget and the hospital administration is also facing problems in this regard due to which medicines are not being provided from hospital's pharmacy.
In addition, there is a shortage of staff, due to which the sanitation system in the hospital cannot be fixed, he added. On this occasion, he requested KMC to carry out construction work of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital building and also to solve other problems faced by the hospital management including lack of staff.
