Policemen booked for extortion

Action follows video of cops taking cash posted on social media

Police have booked cops involved in bribery and extortion, officials said on Sunday.

As part of SSP District Central Maroof Usman operation against extortionists in the police department, case was registered against Sir Syed Police Station head muharar, clerk and two private individuals who acted as 'beaters' to collect 'protection money'.

The clerk and the two beaters were arrested, while raids are being carried out to arrest head muharar Waheed Khan. According to details, on instructions of SSP Center Maroof Usman, Sir Syed Police Constable Sheikh Teymour, and two citizens Gul Khan Gllu and Asif Khan Shams have been arrested and a case has been registered against them, while raids are being carried out to arrest the head muharar of the police station.

According to SSP Usman, action has been taken on a video that went viral on social media in which the said policemen were seen taking extortion money, private persons can also be seen. ASP Liaqatabad was appointed as inquiry officer on the issue of extortion and extortion.

A case was registered after the inquiry was completed and evidence was found against the said policemen. SSP Central said that no concessions would be made to the black sheep involved in the police.

He said that along with legal action against the police personnel involved in extortion, departmental action would also be taken. The investigation has been started by registering cases against the arrested accused.

Following the incident, SSP District Central has abolished the position of deployment clerk in police stations. Now the responsibility of assigning duties of policemen and employees will be on the head clerk of the precinct.
