Experts call for best processing methods for food security

Women’s University Swabi Vice Chancellor Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi said that food security cannot be ensured without microbiological safety so there is a need to introduce better arrangements and best processing methods.

She was speaking at a seminar titled ‘Food safety concerns and role of KP Food Safety and Halal Food Authority’ held at the University of Haripur recently. The event was organised by the university’s Food and Sciences and Technology Department.

Dr Kazmi said, “The role of Haripur University along with the authority is very important in this regard. She also hailed the Haripur University’s initiative to set up a milk testing lab.”

University of Haripur Vice Chancellor Dr Ayub Khan said, “University of Haripur is honoured to have established the first milk testing lab in the universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Department of Food Science and Technology and Haripur University have been working closely with food safety companies in the past.” He added that with this seminar, the university has expanded this series to include more information and training programmes and will continue to do so.

Dr Khan said, “Apart from providing quality education, the university would continue to play its role in the development and protection of the community.” He commended the Department of Food Science and Technology and Assistant Professor Dr Imran Khan, Head of the Department Dr Jahangir and the Food Systems Society for organising this seminar.

Food Safety Expert Dr Abdul Sattar Shah highlighted concerns related to food safety in the province.
