Singer Ali Zafar has released the first single Maula off his fourth album Husn. The music video of the devotional track was unveiled late on Saturday, in honour of the month of Ramazan.

The music video, directed by Waleed Akram, features Zafar in the iconic Sheesh Mahal of the Lahore Fort, surrounded by whirling dervishes. Speaking about the soulful song and the thought process behind the album, the singer posted on his Instagram, “We all go through our journey and perceive life uniquely. For me, the most beautiful experience has been the path to unknown discovery which transcends beyond the realm created by our five senses that we perceive as ‘reality’.”

He went on to add, “Once on that journey, we begin to understand that there is something more to our existence. Where there are no agreements or disagreements, no conversation. Just music in silence. Light inside darkness.”

The Jhoom singer concluded, “Something that can only be expressed through the language of music. And that is the beauty. The Husn [Beauty]. Wishing this Ramazan brings you closest to the Creator and the Husn that is inside you.”

Zafar’s most-recent album Jhoom was released in 2011, with his latest offering coming more than a decade later. The album will be unveiled after Ramazan, with singles being released periodically. Last year, the singer released his own version of the iconic devotional qawwali Balaghal Ula Be Kamalihi in honour of Ramazan.

Speaking about his new music in a previous interview, Zafar shared that he planned to release the album in 2020, but delayed it due to Covid. He shared about his musical journey and steady output of songs, “I kept releasing singles and doing songs for Coke Studio, so it’s not as if my music hasn’t been reaching people. Even recently, I’ve released singles. But, I’ve made an album, and it’s a very different one.”

Sharing details of the upcoming release, he revealed, “The name of the album is Husn, and I was about to release it last year but then Covid happened. So I figured what’s the point if you create an album and then are unable to tour and perform your music.”
