RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has decided to install metres on water supply connections across cantonment areas to stop water theft.

The RCB said that water supply charges will be levied according to the new tariff.

The board meeting has decided to take strict action against the construction of residential and commercial buildings without the approval of building plans.

The board decided to take legal action against those responsible.

The RCB noted that a colony was being set up in British Homes without fulfilling the legal requirements and 35 residential houses were being constructed over the sewerage drain in Dhok Banaras.

The cantonment executive officer Imran Gulzar, vice president Malik Muhammad Munir Ahmed and elected and nominated members attended the board meeting chaired by RCB President Brig Salman Nazar.

The board approved plans for two marquees, 232 residential and 15 commercial buildings and the creation of several departments including sanitation and garden departments. The board also approved the purchase of equipment for the Cantonment General Hospital.

The board meeting also approved the extension of tenure of doctors and staff of Cantonment General Hospital, termination of free parking at Pothohar One and Pothohar Two parking lots in Saddar Bazaar and the award of contracts for charged parking.

The board meeting postponed the proposal for new commercial zoning in Cantonment to the next meeting.

The meeting was informed that the doctors will be allowed to practice in the evening at the Cantonment General Hospital, which will be started after the approval of the competent authority. Thirty per cent of the income of practising doctors will go to Cantonment General Hospital and 70 per cent to the practising doctors. This will enable the residents of Cantonment to have access to specialist medical services within the Cantonment General Hospital for a reasonable fee in the evening hours.

Elected members also called for ensuring water supply to all residential areas in Cantonment during the summer.
