ABBOTABAD:

Pillars have been installed in Salhad to solve longstanding traffic issues after a timely intervention of the federal Ombudsman.

For years there have been severe complaints of traffic jams in Salhad which is an important area of Abbottabad district. The surrounding area has many primary, middle schools and girls' colleges and a busy vegetable market and is often visited by tourists and locals from Abbottabad, Mansehra and other areas of the country.

Locals and tourists both suffer traffic congestion because Salhad is only 7 kilometres from Abbottabad and the motorway point. Severe traffic jams, rising petrol prices and vehicle breakdowns have plagued commuters all over the country.

On the directives of Federal Ombudsman Ijaz Ahmad Qureshi, the Regional Office Abbottabad made senior police officers of the Police Department aware of the plight of the people of Salhad. They acted immediately and installed small pillars in the middle of the road, creating separate entrances and exits points to the city of Abbottabad.

SP Traffic Qamar Hayat said, “Roads that do not have pillars yet will be worked on immediately. At present, the only road in Abbottabad which leads to Havelian (Goharabad) interchange of the motorway will also be paved with two lanes to provide convenience to the people".

Locals thanked the federal ombudsman for taking notice of this severe issue and his timely intervention.

Meanwhile male and female athletes, who had won medals in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa under-21 games, were given cash prizes at a function organised by the district administration and the regional sports office in Abbottabad.

Abbottabad Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Tariq Salam Marwat commended the female athletes for showcasing their talent in the K-P under 21 KP games held in Peshawar.

World Snooker Champion Ahsan Ramzan was the chief guest. Appreciating teenage World Snooker Champion Ahsan Ramazan, the deputy commissioner said he was a national hero and a role model for others.

He presented a memorial shield to the world snooker champion. Ahsan Ramazan said if a player worked hard and competed in his respective field then nobody could beat him.
