KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that following the footprints of the previous regimes, the government didn’t announce the PFC Award, practically keeping Karachi deprived of its due share and treating the city of 30 million people as an orphan.

“Neither Sindh government, nor the federal government own Karachi,” the JI leader maintained while talking to office-bearers of SITE Association at its office, here in Karachi.

The JI leader said that the party had held protest sit-in outside the Sindh Assembly building for 29 continuous days. As a result of the continuous protest, the Sindh government agreed to provide share of Octroi District Tax, Motor Vehicle Tax, PFC Awards, and to appoint elected mayor of the local government as chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board.

The issues dealt by the provincial cabinet have been resolved by the Sindh government while deliberations are underway for other issues, he said. He said that unfortunately in the past, the representatives of Karachi had sold out mandate of the city.

He said that both the MQM and the PTI dashed the hopes and aspirations of their voters. He asked Karachiities to come into the fold of the party for a joint struggle to resolve the issues of Karachi.
