Information Minister says Imran will not be blackmailed

ISLAMABAD:

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Saturday that those betraying Prime Minister Imran Khan would lose respect of the masses, and expressed the confidence that the opponents would fail in their no-confidence motion against “the most popular leader” of the country.

Talking to the media along with Energy Minister Hammad Azhar, Fawad said the illegal moves of the opposition parties had exposed their hidden agenda and that the people of Pakistan had strongly rejected it.

He stressed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government would remain intact under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran, adding that the government “wishes to end the whole episode at the earliest” to restore economic development of the country.

“Betraying someone is inappropriate,” the minister said. “There is a public outrage against it,” he added, referring to the PTI dissidents, who were staying at the Sindh House in Islamabad. “People are angry the way they have gone there.”

The minister stressed that those who had been elected on the PTI tickets, should first resign, get themselves re-elected and then they should vote for someone else. He added that the opposition wanted Imran Khan to be blackmailed but it would not happen.

He repeated his earlier call for reducing the political tensions, saying that issues should be discussed. About the vandalism at the Sindh House, the other day, he said that the PTI leadership had never thought of any such incident.

“The way the PML-N [Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz] and the PPP [Pakistan Peoples Party] completed their five-year terms, the PTI government should also complete its term,” he said, adding: “Imran Khan cannot be removed through conspiracies.”

About the party’s power show in D-Chowk on March 27, the minister said that the PTI was holding its rally, while the opposition was gathering there on a separate date. Responding to a question about the National Assembly session, he said that the matter belonged to the speaker.

Speaking on this occasion Azhar said some dissident members of the PTI had contacted them. He added that their doors were always open for those who regretted their mistakes. He expressed his confidence that the PTI would defeat no confidence motion.
