Trailer for Saba Qamar and Zahid Ahmed's latest cinematic offering Ghabrana Nahi Hai dropped on Saturday, with the two-and-a-half-minute-long clip promising an action-packed ride for lovers of desi crime thrillers.

Taking it from the top, the trailer unpacks a love triangle, themes of corruption, debauchery and women being undermined or exploited under situations of extreme political pressure. While the plot is skillfully kept under wraps, the clip shows Saba playing yet another fearless phoenix of a woman who rises from the ashes to put men in their place.

The film is set to explore how a social media influencer-turned-actor like Saba’s character, can go to extremes to prove to the men around her, that if they don’t pull up their socks to serve justice, women like her will have to take the power back. The film isn’t entirely women-centric though.

In fact, Ghabrana Nahi Hai seems to be populated by men willing to fight crime – for their own incentives – and wreak havoc otherwise. The trailer begins with Zahid’s character – a corrupt police officer – raiding, what appears to be a night club, as an item number plays in the background. “Ye Islami Jamhooria Pakistan hai, yahan sharab-noshi or jua jurm hai,” he says before one of his men offer an empty suitcase, possibly to initiate a ‘negotiation’.

Agar adalat men humari peshi hui, tou agli bar gaal, tumhara hoga sipahsalar, (If I am called into court, yours will be next cheek I slap), Nayyer Ijaz, who seems to be reprising his villain self for the film, tells Zahid’s character in a following scene. While Saba’s character’s father asks her, “Kya bigar legi unka? Beti hai! Beta hota tou jaake lar bhi leta unse (What will you do about them? You’re a daughter. If I had a son, he would’ve fought them).”

Saba is also seen romancing with Zahid’s character before shaming him, giving him the alternative to either take off his uniform, or remove the mirror from his house that allows him to look at himself without feeling any guilt. It also sees Syed Jibran playing the role of a jealous friend or fiancé of Saba’s, who can’t seem to stand Zahid. However, in a twisted turn of events, Saba’s character ends up with Nayyer Ejaz and we will have to really see the film to be able to comprehend – why?

Earlier, the film’s teaser featured a collection of scenes – complete with gold chain-sporting gangsters, gun-wielding police officers, sherwani-clad politicians – eventually showed a bride marching into a wedding venue filled with shocked guests, seemingly ready for a confrontation. She had kicked off the clip with a wonderment, “Kya kuch nahin sochta insaan, kaisay kasiay sapnay dekhta hai. (There’s so much a person thinks about. So many dreams he has).”

Ghabrana Nahi Hai is slated to release on Eidul Fitr.
