Family members and friends of an allegedly mentally unstable man, who was killed in an encounter by the police, staged a protest in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Swabi district on Friday by blocking the main road.

The protester marched on towards the local Yar Hussain police station and tried to attack it but dispersed after a baton charge by police.

Local residents told The Express Tribune that a youngster namely Kamran had a fight with a traffic police constable in Yar Hussain, Swabi. Shortly after, additional police personnel were called in who gunned down Kamran in cold blood.

“Three to four police vehicles surrounded Kamran and shot him dead. They didn’t allow anyone to shift him to hospital,” residents said, adding that Kamran was suffering from depression and the police had already been informed about his prevailing condition that compelled him to pick a fight with everyone.
