Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt is going global after dominating the Indian box office with her latest offering and surprising the industry with her versatile acting prowess. The 28-year-old actor is all set to mark her Hollywood debut in a major studio film starring alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in the international spy thriller Heart of Stone from Netflix and Skydance.
According to Deadline, director Tom Harper, known for his work in Peaky Blinders, will be helming the project written by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are producing the film alongside Mockingbird’s Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn and Pilot Wave’s Gadot and Jaron Varsano. Harper, Rucka and Patty Whitcher are exec producing the spy thriller.
While plot details are kept under wraps, it is revealed that Heart of Stone has been a high priority for Netflix following its competitive auction victory for the project in January 2021. Skydance had packaged the property and taken it to the market with several suitors vying for rights.
The news was confirmed by the Highway star as she shared the publication's tweet on her Instagram.
Bhatt, who made her Bollywood debut with Karan Johar’s Student of The Year, has climbed her way up as one of India’s top leading actors. Her latest offering, Gangubai Kathiawadi was ranked as the biggest non-holiday opening for a Bollywood film since the start of the pandemic. Her previous films have made historic records before as well. Gully Boy starring Bhatt alongside Ranveer Singh was India’s submission for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars. Both of her films, Gangubai Kathiawadi and Gully Boy were also premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2020 and 2019 respectively.
Bhatt is internationally repped by WME, Echo Lake Entertainment, Matrix and attorney Steve Warren.
