Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Balochistan will kick off a five-day anti-polio vaccination drive across Balochistan from Monday (today) during which drops will be administrated to more than 2.5 million children.
The coordinator of the EOC while talking with The Express Tribune said that all necessary arrangements had been made regarding the campaign as 10,832 teams would be deployed to vaccinate children under the age of five.
Around 8,788 mobile, 942 fixed and 594 transit teams have been deployed to make sure that all children are administered the anti-polio drops, he added.
The assistance of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) has been sought to ensure complete security for polio teams, he mentioned.
Confirmation of four polio cases from Afghanistan over the last 4 months is a strong signal for us to be more vigilant and protect our children against the possible transmission of polio virus into Balochistan by ensuring that the immunity of our children is good, he said.
He disclosed that in 2022 no polio case has been reported from Balochistan.
“The efforts and dedication of our front-line workers are admirable in this regard,” he added.
Provision of foolproof security to polio workers across the province remained a key challenge for the security establishment owing to the scattered population of the province.
