Two sentenced to death for quadruple murders

Trial court also imposes heavy fines on convicts for killing of four members of family

A trial court on Thursday handed down death sentence to two persons and life imprisonment to two others in the murder case of four persons of a family in Kallar Syedan in January last year.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Masood Akhtar Kayani delivered the verdict and awarded a death sentence to Asif Hussain and Salamat Hussain with a fine of Rs0.3 million on each convict.

The trial court awarded life imprisonment to Nasir Hussain and Mohammad Hamid besides slapping a fine of Rs1 million on each convict.

The court awarded eight years sentence to Rashid Hussain and imposed a fine of Rs35,000 on him. The court, however, acquitted co-accused, Karamat Hussain, due to lack of evidence.

Four members of a family were killed, while nine others were injured in a clash between two neighbours over a property dispute in Kallar Syedan on January 15, 2021.

The incident happened when two members of the family stopped their relatives from constructing a wall on a piece of land over. Later, the women members of the family also joined them in the quarrel and the convicts opened fire on their relatives killing two women and two men and injuring nine others. The dead were identified as Ansar Iqbal, 62, Zareen Iqbal, 60, Raqeebun Nissa, 60, and Safoora Begum, 55.

After the incident, police arrested the suspects and recovered weapons used in the murder.

The court ruled in its judgment that it was a heinous crime and no leniency could be shown to the culprits. The court ruled that both the convicts should be hanged till death.

The convicts were brought to the court from jail under tight security. Both the convicts, who were sentenced to death, were shifted to the death cell after the verdict.

After the verdict, plaintiff Iqbal said that the court delivered justice to him.

Three proclaimed offenders held

Meanwhile, Naseerabad police arrested three proclaimed offenders in the killing of a man. The fugitive criminals had killed Sujawal Rahi in the year 2021 over an old enmity.

The three wanted and proclaimed offenders were identified as Aslam and his two sons Farhan and Rizwan. The case of the incident was registered at the Naseerabad Police Station on a complaint of the victim's wife.
