KARACHI:

More than six armed criminals robbed a mobile phone franchise at gunpoint in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, injured the security guard over resistance and fled with his weapon. An elderly man in the franchise was also tortured by the gunmen during the incident.

There were 20 people in the franchise at the time of the incident and the suspects deprived them of mobile phones, cash and other valuables.

Sources said unidentified armed suspects entered the franchise of a mobile phone company in front of Al-Jannat Restaurant near Maskan Chowrangi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal within the limits of Mobina Town Police Station. The armed criminals started looting the citizens and the staff of the franchise at gunpoint.

Police rushed to the spot and started investigation after gathering evidence from the crime scene.

A citizen who was present in the franchise at the time of the incident told The Express Tribune that about 20 people, including female staff, were in the franchise at the time of the incident.

The citizen said that the armed criminals locked the people present in the franchise in a room on the mezzanine floor and then left the franchise one-by-one. Some accomplices of the armed suspects were also present outside the franchise and fled on more than three motorcycles after the incident.

He said that most of the citizens in the franchise had come to deposit cash online. The citizen said that the police was informed immediately after the incident but they arrived late.

Mujeeb, the owner of the franchise, said that an estimate was being made as to how much money the armed criminals had looted. He further said that in 2019 there was an incident of robbery in the same franchise.
