Five murdered in six weeks in Gujranwala

Crime situation in city deteriorates with number of robberies increasing

Five people were killed in a month-anda-half for resisting robbery attempts in Gujranwala while three other people sustained injuries.

The crime situation in Gujranwala has deteriorated since the beginning of the New Year, and the number of robberies has increased.

In January, some motorcycle riders robbed Ajmal Khan of cash. He was a vendor selling dried fruit. The robbery took place on the Sui Gas Road in the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines Police Station.

When the robbers had been fleeing, the vendor swore at them. This angered the robbers who returned and shot at the vendor, leaving him seriously injured. He was rushed to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

Exactly three days after this incident, Rana Imran, a mobile phone shop owner, was robbed of Rs80,000. When the robbers had been fleeing he raised an alarm hoping that someone in the market would intercept the robbers. This act of his made the robbers open fire on him, killing him on the spot.

A teenage motorcyclist, Abdul Rehman, was intercepted by unidentified people who tried to snatch his mobile phone and Rs1500 from him. They shot him dead when he offered resistance.

The fourth incident took place in the area of Khayali Police Station where Sarfraz Ahmed, a security guard, had been sitting outside the house of a fan company owner when some motorcycle riders arrived and tried to snatch the gun from Sarfraz so that they could enter the house, but the security guard resisted. The culprits opened fire on Sarfraz Ahmad, killing him on the spot.

In the area of Aymanabad Police Station, Usman Gondal, a middleman, had been on his way to work when he was intercepted by some unidentified men at gunpoint. When Usman Gondal resisted their attempt to rob him, they opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.

In the area of the same police station, a man and his son were at a grocery store when three robbers attempted to rob them of their money. Whey they resisted their attempt they were shot at by the robbers. The Civil Lines police arrested some suspects who have been accused of having killed Rana Imran and Ajmal Khan.

CPO Syed Hamad Abid told a press conference that the robbers had allegedly confessed to the crime.

Meanwhile, an alleged robber Sabir had escaped from the custody of police. Two days later the proclaimed offender Sabir had been fleeing after another incident with his accomplices when the police was alerted and during the confrontation with the police, Sabir was shot dead by his own comrades’ firing. The two other robbers escaped
