The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced the names of its candidates for the second phase of local government (LG) elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
According to the list shared by the PTI on its official Twitter handle, the party so far announced the names of 54 candidates for tehsil chairmen, while “the names of the remaining 10 tehsil candidates will be announced soon”. Local bodies’ elections will be held in 64 tehsils in the second phase.
The PTI tickets were awarded to the candidates, following recommendations from members of the provincial and National Assembly. In December 2021, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the PTI paid the price for mistakes it made in the first phase of the local government elections in K-P.

“PTI made mistakes in the first phase of K-P LG elections & paid the price. Wrong candidate selection was a major cause,” Prime Minister Imran tweeted. “From now on, I will personally be overseeing PTI’s LG election strategy for the second phase of K-P LG elections & LG elections across Pak. InshaAllah PTI will come out stronger.”
According to sources privy to the decision made by the prime minister, the party lawmakers and office bearers would identify three names for candidates in each constituency. “The list will then be conveyed by K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan to the prime minister who will make the final decision,” they said, adding that the lawmakers had been directed against the repetition of the same mistakes committed during the first phase of the LG elections.
