ISLAMABAD:

The boom in regional trade is largely dependent on relaxation of trade relations with Afghanistan, said Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muhammad Shakeel Munir.

Speaking to the APP on Monday, he said that massive opportunities were available for Pakistan with regard to promotion of trade with Afghanistan and Central Asian countries. He further stressed the need for tapping the actual potential through implementation of proper strategies.

Munir particularly mentioned the scope of bilateral trade in mining, minerals and precious stone sectors of the economy.

Talking about the visit of Afghan trade delegation, he termed it good omen which would have a positive impact on two way trade.

A 19-member delegation of Pakistan Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) arrived in Pakistan on Monday to explore trade opportunities between the two neighbouring countries.

The group, led by PAJCCI President Khan Jan Alokozay, is scheduled to visit different industrial cities of the country and hold discussions with representatives of the business community for the promotion of trade.

At the end of January 2022, a delegation from Pakistan, led by Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security Moeed Yousuf, visited Afghanistan and held meetings with representatives of various Afghan ministries, including industries and commerce divisions. The two sides discussed bilateral trade and outlined a future plan of action.

Under the action plan, the two countries decided to carry forward negotiations to strengthen two way trade and economic ties and evolve a strategy for barter trade, opening of banking channels and transit trade facilitation.
