Around 36 Union Councils (UCs) of Potohar Town have been merged into the Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC). Potohar Town (rural areas) has been completely abolished and made a regular urban area. With this decision, regular commercial and property tax will be levied on the citizens and traders of all the 36 former union councils.

All major roads of these former union councils have been declared commercial roads. Meanwhile, the regional election commissioner has made it mandatory to file objections against the new delimitation of Rawalpindi district with a court ticket worth Rs100. The objection can only be filed by a voter. While the citizens and local government representatives have rejected the new delimitation alleging that the old union councils have been split into three to six parts.

They said new the neighbourhood council has been formed by merging constituencies of remote areas instead of nearby areas. Jamaat-e-Islami leader Taj Abbasi said, “The UC Rehmatabad has been divided into six parts and merged with Dhok Hafiz and Dur areas. This is a conspiracy to make PTI candidates successful in the local government elections.
