Pakistan, Oman vow to enhance military engagements, strategic ties

ISPR says Gulf country’s dignitaries also appreciated Pakistan armed forces' role in capacity-building of Omani forces

Pakistan and Oman militaries have agreed to enhance the current level and scope of engagements and reaffirmed to continue to forge deeper strategic ties, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

"Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza (CJCSC), while on an official visit to Oman, called on the leadership of Oman," the statement added.

The ISPR said that during the separately held meetings, both sides deliberated upon various areas of interest, bilateral cooperation including security, counter-terrorism and the prevailing regional environment particularly with reference to Afghanistan.

It quoted the CJCSC as saying that "Pakistan and Oman are two brotherly Islamic countries who are constructively engaged in widening and deepening bilateral defence ties and are taking measures to promote peace and stability in the region."

According to the military's media wing, the Oman dignitaries remained appreciative of the role of the Pakistan Armed Forces in the capacity building of the Omani Armed Forces. They also acknowledged the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the war against terrorism.

The ISPR said that "Sayyid Shihab Bin Tariq Bin Taimour Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs General Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Namani, Minister of the Royal Office, Vice Admiral Abdullah Bin Khamis Al Raisi, Chief of Staff Sultan’s Armed Forces, Rear Admiral Saif Bin Nasser Bin Mohsin Al Rahbi, Commander of Royal Navy of Oman and Air Vice Marshal Khamis Hammad Al Ghafri, Commander of Royal Air Force of Oman" were those present in separate meetings with the CJCSC.

"Earlier, upon arrival at Muaskar Al Murtafa Camp a smartly turned out guard presented guard of honour to General Nadeem Raza," the communique concluded.
