GUJRANWALA:

Three suspects were arrested on the charges of tying a 45-year-old man and subjecting him to torture in a market in the Kamoke Tehsil of Gujranwala.

The accused had tied the man with ropes and beat him up with sticks while the people in the market watched the incident as silent spectators.

No one bothered to come to the rescue of the 45-year-old man. The arrests came about after a video of the incident went viral.

This incident was a replication of a similar incident that took place last month.

In the earlier incident that took place on January 20 near Saddar Bazaar area in the jurisdiction of City Kamoke police station, the accused had tied their victim’s feet with ropes and beat him up with sticks.

People gathered around the victim to see the spectacle, but nobody dared to rescue the victim, Fayyaz Bhatti, from his predicament nor did anyone bother to inform the police.

Some people did make videos of the horrible scene. One of those videos went viral on the social media.

After the video went viral, CPO Syed Hamad Abid took notice of the incident and ordered the SHO of the Kamoki City Police Station, Muhammad Waqas, to trace the culprits and arrest them.

The SHO got in touch with Fayyaz Bhatti. The victim told the police officer about the accused who included one of the victim’s own nephew and two other people who also happened to be the victim’s relations.

According to the police, the victim had been a differently abled person, who was addicted to drugs as well.

Bhatti used to verbally abuse the accused in the latter’s house which infuriated the accused who took the extreme step of torturing his uncle publicly.

Police said that Fayyaz Bhatti had alleged that he had been having a property dispute with his relatives due to which he was tortured.

Police arrested accused Ahmed Maqsood and Waqas Aqarzeeshan on the charges of torturing a man.

Police said that if the accused had had any complaint against Fayyaz, they should have contacted the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.

CPO Syed Hamad Abid said that if people immediately report matters to the police then they would be able to help in preventing such illegal incidents from happening.

The victim had thanked the police and said that he had been given justice in a timely manner.
