Residents of the area told The Express Tribune that the criminal gangs of Lyari, once scuttled by Rangers, have resurfaced and started collecting extortion money from various traders in Lyari and Kharadar.
A few days ago, the accused had given an extortion slip to Jahanzeb, the medical store owner, and left. However, he ignored them and refused to pay the extortion. Police say they were investigating the incident.
According to area residents, the extortionists fired another shop in the same area about three months ago for not paying extortion. However, no injuries were reported at the time.
