The national COVID positivity ratio shot above 12% once again, however, the single day tally of new cases on Tuesday was less than Monday’s 7,000 figure, according to the daily update of the pandemic issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
Tuesday marked the sixth consecutive day of a positivity ratio higher than 10%, highlighting that the fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic driven by the Omicron variant, was showcasing no signs of abating.
The NCOC reported a national positivity rate of 12.81% as 6,357 new coronavirus cases were recorded in the last 24 hours. The Centre verified that the national caseload of the virus had risen to 1.381 million, while 17 more deaths, took the nationwide death toll to 29,122.
The worst-affected city was Karachi, where the positivity rate was a staggering 40.68%, according to the NCOC data. It was followed by 29.41% in Muzaffarabad, 23.89% in Peshawar, 21.53% in Hyderabad, 15.83% in Lahore and 12.50% in Rawalpindi.
The forum said that 556 people recovered from coronavirus during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,269,634. It added that the tally of active cases soared to 82,396, including 1,200 patients in critical condition.
