Pakistan Super League (PSL) finally unveiled the highly-anticipated anthem for its seventh season performed by Atif Aslam, Aima Baig and Abdullah Siddiqui.
Titled Agay Dekh, the stellar production of the track shines through, with Aslam delivering the kind of performance expected from a singer of his stature after a long time. It hits the mark when it comes to getting people on their feet to dance; however, it lacks the grandeur of an anthem, such as that which was present in Abdullah Siddiqui’s previous Zalmi offering, Kingdom. But despite its shortcomings, the track truly shines as a pop song and has the aggression the previous PSL anthem, Groove Mera, lacked.
The video of the song includes all the quintessential shots of cricket lovers watching a match with bated breath, celebrating victories and filling up stadiums. Atif dances along to the music in a fur-lined jacket, while Aima grooves in a ring of fire.
The song garnered 1.8 million views till the filing of this report in a span of 17 hours and is the number two trending video on YouTube
On fans returning to stadiums following the last season which was marred by the pandemic, the official statement by PSL read, “Last year, the HBL PSL was deprived of its home crowd due to Covid-19 restrictions, but this year we will have fans in the stands. Pakistan’s biggest sporting event is a festival and a celebration, and the anthem pays tribute to everyone who waits excitedly for this time of year. With Agay dekh we have strived to showcase how much we love cricket, as well as capture the attitude, the fierceness and the banter that houses that love.”
Last season’s anthem, Groove Mera, performed by Naseebo Lal gathered much criticism, failing to meet the expectations of PSL fans. However, reactions to the PSL 7 anthem Agay Dekh have been widely positive on social media. Despite the relative success of this year’s anthem, comparisons surfaced on Twitter with Ali Zafar’s PSL offering Ab Khel Jamay Ga.
A fan wrote on Twitter, “PSL anthems of recent past in comparison to Ali Zafar's versions couldn't impress but Atif Aslam definitely made a bombastic entry.”
🎶🥳Haath hawaa mei uthaa ley… Dillou ka hosla barha ley… Shor zara tu macha ley! PSL anthems of recent past in comparison to Ali Zafar's versions couldn't impress cricket fans much but Atif Aslam definitely is expected to make a boombastic entry in PSL through #HBLPSL7 anthem!

Another felt the song grows on you, “That’s the PSL anthem phenomena, at first it won't attract you but it will gradually make its place in your heart."

Some netizens also felt it is unfair to compare newer tracks to older ones is a rite of passage.
