Three minor children died in an incident of fire at a house in Qainchi Amar Sadhu Village on Friday.

A couple and their three other children also received burn injuries. The victims reportedly were asleep in their house near Ferozepur Road Qainchi Stop. While the family was asleep, the house accidentally caught fire and turned into a huge blaze engulfing the whole house. The house was filled with smoke.

Noticing the intensity of the fire and noise, the neighbours alerted Rescue 1122. The firefighters rushed to the site and started the rescue operation. They shifted the victims to Lahore General Hospital then shifted the patients to Jinnah for advance care.

The deceased minors have been identified as Zahra, 6, Ali Abbas 3 and Umar, 4. The injured have been identified as Ahmad Raza 13, Hasan Ali 11, Laraib Martab 8, Ali Hamza 15 and Farzana Martab 38. According to initial reports, reportedly it has been caused by short circuit. On January 6, at least seven people died after a house caught fire apparently due to gas leakage in a village of Toba Tek Singh district.

Four other residents of the house were rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

The victims who died of burn injuries included four children and a woman of the same family. Local people told The Express Tribune that the roof of the house collapsed after the fire broke out.

Residents of the area themselves made efforts to retrieve the bodies from the rubble for half an hour before teams of rescue workers reached the spot. A heavy contingent of police also reached the spot after the incident that took place in Chak No. 756GB Nakiana village near Pir Mehal.
