We’re half way through the first month of 2022 and many of us may still be uncertain about what lies ahead of us. The past two years have left us a little disoriented to say the least but as we embark on the new year, we want to put our health, wellbeing and mental health before all else. The pandemic has taught us the importance of mind, body and soul and how imperative it is to put all of this above and beyond all. And to help you start fresh and have a clean slate, we’ve rounded up some wellness tips which will enable you to put yourself first this year.
Get organised and start scheduling
While not everyone likes to plan, planning your week in advance can help you get organised and give you clarity. You will have a better idea of what lies in the week ahead, allowing you to remain focused and not lose sight of what’s to come. From important appointments, to your workouts, meetings, family time and socialising; planning it out will definitely make things less chaotic. This also gives you a chance to schedule what’s important and what your priorities are.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
While it may be something we hear all the time, we can’t stress enough on the importance of staying hydrated and keeping those water levels up. If you are not hydrated well enough, it will result in a decline in your energy levels and your motivation will be lost. Get into the habit of drinking at least one litre of water as soon as you wake up because chances are, you will wake up dehydrated.
Step out and get some activity in
Being outdoors and spending time in nature will do wonders for your mental health and wellbeing. Take a long walk, spend time in nature and enjoy some fresh air; even if it’s for a few minutes everyday. It will immediately relax you and clear your mind and most certainly have a huge impact on your emotional wellbeing.
Start a gratitude ritual
An everyday practice that will help your mind, body and soul is showing gratitude. While it can only take a few minutes of your day, the results are long lasting. Keep track of all the good things that happen to you throughout 2022 in a journal and look forward to reading it at the end of the year. While you may have bad days and tough times, there will always be something to be grateful for. Journaling about your gratitude can instantly uplift your mood and will increase your self awareness.
Sleep more
If you found yourself not getting enough sleep or not getting enough quality sleep in 2021, it’s time to change that pronto! While you’re asleep, your body heals and recovers so getting an adequate amount is vital. Sleeping late or not getting enough hours of sleep each night can be linked to declining metabolism and increased fat storage. Waking up sluggish will not give you the motivation to get out of bed and get on with your day.
Try to go green
Pretty much everything we use contains chemicals and can be damaging for the environment. This year, let’s think green and opt for as many non-toxic products as possible. For example, switch your moisturiser for a cold pressed oil instead, or emit the use of plastic straws. Adopting such practices and making ecologically responsible decisions will not only make you feel good but will help protect the environment and sustain the Earth’s natural resources for as long as possible.
