RAWALPINDI:
The lawyers in Rawalpindi gathered under the aegis of Pakistan Lawyers Movement on Wednesday to condemn the death of a young man who allegedly being kept by security agencies.
“The lawyers express their concern over the death of Muhammad Amir, 25, who had already been acquitted by a court of law in different cases,” said Raja Mudassir Awais Advocate, member of the association, which aims to protect the judiciary and its independence.
The lawyers in their meeting called upon the higher judiciary to take stock of the death of the detained man and bring the culprits to the book.
Meanwhile Advocate Tariq Asad filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court on behalf of the three brothers who were allegedly being detained alongside Amir. He prayed to the court to ensure that the three detained men are brought forward for a “fair trial”.
The three men, along with eight others, were taken away by security agencies in May last year from Adiala Jail after they were acquitted in four different terrorism cases.
Later, the lawyer of a security agency admitted before the Supreme Court that the missing men were in their custody and were being tried for terrorism activities.
The families of the other detained men expressed grave concern after Amir’s incident came to limelight.
The lawyer said the families want to know whether their children are safe or not.
