WAPDA for completing Dasu project on time

Scheme will increase green, low-cost electricity share in national grid

Dasu Hydropower Project is of immense importance to increase green and low-cost hydel electricity’s share in national grid, said Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Muzammil Hussain.

During his visit to the Dasu Hydropower Project, being constructed on Indus River in the Upper Kohistan District in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, he urged project authorities to ensure the achievement of major construction milestones in accordance with the timelines set for the purpose.

He reviewed progress on the project and directed the management to redouble efforts for completion of the scheme in accordance with the stipulated timeline and construction standards.

Earlier, the Wapda chairman was briefed about the progress on the project.

He was apprised that construction work was under way on eight sites simultaneously, which included diversion tunnels, an underground powerhouse, a flushing and traffic tunnel, relocation of Karakoram Highway and a 132-kilovolt transmission line.

It is worth mentioning that the 4,320-megawatt Dasu Hydropower Project is being built in two stages.

At present, Wapda is working on stage one, which will generate 2,160MW of energy and provide a huge quantity of green and low-cost electricity to the national grid annually.

Stage two will contribute another nine billion units of electricity to the system per annum.

Dasu Hydropower Project General Manager Anwarul Haq and representatives of consultants and the contractor were present on the occasion.
