PESHAWAR:

In the far-flung districts category in the country, Orakazai tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) has performed well as far as the Covid-19 vaccination is concerned.

An official told The Express Tribune that a letter of appreciation has been issued to Orakzai district for its best performance on country level.

“A decision has been made to give performance award to the Orakzai district too,” he said, adding that National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) has called a special session on January 6 in which the president of Pakistan will be the chief guest.

He said that during the session those districts which have achieved highest level of vaccination would be awarded.

“Those districts which have shown better performance in Covid-19 vaccination till December 31, 2021 will be given performance award,” he said.

It may be noted here that the total adult population of the Orkazai district (12 years and above) stands at 178,000 individuals out of which 108,000 people have been successfully vaccinated.

“Orakzai district has shown a remarkable progress in the Covid-19 vaccination despite the fact that it is a mountainous area and badly hit by the wave of militancy. Still its people have shown no hesitation to get vaccinated,” said the official, adding that across the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) the vaccination ratio is just 30 per cent despite all the efforts by the government and this 30 per cent population had received just a single dose.

In a press conference a few months back, Finance and Health Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra said that around 7.3 million people had been vaccinated against Covid-19 in the K-P province so far and Chitral district has been on the top of the vaccination drive.

He said that in Chitral and other districts the vaccination drive was in full swing but in rural Peshawar, Charsadda and Kurram the process was slow and districts resisting vaccination will be punished.
