`Initial investigation blames the killing on 'old enmity

ISLAMABAD:

A man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Bani Gala police jurisdiction on Monday. This was the second murder that occurred in the federal capital within 24 hours.

Police said that Muhammad Faheem was standing near a wheelbarrow when two unidentified persons on a motorcycle showed up and opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. According to the SP City, police cordoned off the area after the incident but the assailants managed to escape.

According to the preliminary investigation, the incident seemed to be the result of an old enmity. On the other hand, Islamabad Police Inspector General Muhammad Ahsan Younis has taken notice of the two murder incidents and has sought a report from the SP City.

On Sunday, Raja Zariab was killed by unidentified assailants in the Bhara Kahu police jurisdiction. Police have so far failed to arrest the assailants in both incidents.

Meanwhile, Koral police claimed to have arrested a thief gang and recovered stolen valuables and two pistols along with ammunition from their possession, a police spokesman said on Monday.

The accused were identified as Nabeel Farooq, Zafar Ali, Muhammad Mehtab, Zubair Ali, and Muhammad Rafique. Stolen valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees and two pistols were also seized. Separate cases have been registered at Koral police station.
