Bid to smuggle weapons from K-P into AJK foiled

44 latest rifles and pistols of different bores along with 11,000 bullets were recovered from suspects, say police

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police (AJKP) on Monday foiled a bid to smuggle weapons into the region from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

The smugglers along with heavy arms were arrested at Dhan Gali checkpost in Tehsil Dadyal of Mirpur district.

The AJKP acting on a tip-off intercepted a car bearing number AGV -111 of K-P.

The police searched the vehicle and recovered around 44 latest rifles and pistols of different bores along with 11,000 bullets.

The region’s police arrested two suspects who were identified as Abidullah, son of Hameed Allah, resident of Takht Bhai Mardan, K-P. While the other alleged weapon smuggler was identified as Saeed Ullah, son of Sharaf Udin, resident of Faqeer Abad Tall in K-P's Hangu district.

AJK Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Sohail Habib Tajik hailed the quick action of Dadyal police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Dadyal Amar Dar and announced appreciation letters and cash awards for them.
