A policeman was killed and another was injured when robbers opened fire on them during an encounter near Chand Bungalows on the SITE Super Highway. The suspects fled the scene.
According to SITE Superhighway SHO Imam Bakhsh Lashari, three robbers on a motorbike were looting passers-by near Chand Bungalows in Faqra Goth when two policemen arrived at the spot. The policemen tried to capture the suspects.
The armed men opened indiscriminate fire. As a result, both the policemen were injured while the suspects fled the scene. The injured were rushed to a private hospital where Malik Barkat succumbed to his injuries, while the condition of Muhammad Anwar is said to be critical.
The SHO added that the dead and injured personnel were residents of Khairpur. After conducting legal proceedings of the deceased constable at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, his body was handed over to the family members. Funeral prayers of the deceased were offered at the headquarters while his body was sent to Khairpur for burial.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the three suspects were wearing shalwar kameez and their ages were estimated to be between 25 and 30 years. The CCTV footage of Chand Bungalows and its vicinities are being obtained to identify the culprits.
